Community Support Ran a Marathon Defining Moments 4 Defining Moments: When looking back on my life there a few defining moments that helped me grow to become the person I am today. First, I graduated college: this is where I figured out what I wanted to do when I grew up. By joining a sorority, I also developed life-long relationships that have taught me how to trust. Next, I had a twenty-five year career with the YMCA.
It began straight out of college and progressed into a career that allowed me to fulfill my purpose of helping others . This is where I learned what commitment means. After 25 years I left the organization for a new career opportunity. As the Manager of Volunteer Services, I met people from all over the world, who had different backgrounds and beliefs. They gave their time, money, talent, and treasures to help children with life threatening illnesses.
This became more than a job to me. It was my home away from home. The place to make wishes come true with people who were kind and full of gratitude. My last defining moment that I want to share was when I decided I wanted to give back to the community, so I decided to run a marathon and support the ASPCA. I am an animal lover, so I thought this was a perfect fit.
It took 5 months of rigorous training, but it was well worth it. This taught me self discipline and determination All of these defining moments were pivotal experiences that changed me along the way, for the better! To continue my path of success I decided to pursue a master's degree at Walden University. Within the last six weeks I have been able to understand who I am as a person which helped me create a vision and mission for myself. 4 My Mission Mission My mission is to create positive social change by encouraging, engaging, and equipping family, friends, and colleagues with the best version of me: trustworthy, upbeat, and determined.

Putting It All Together Presented By: Natasha Mills Course: MMSL-6105 Defining Moments during my Professional Career Defining moments are those that cause me to change or realize something. There are moments that helped me Inspire action. I was led to inspire action when there was disorder.
My team members had an argument which kept us from moving forward. I had to talk to them to make them see each others’ perspectives. Defining moments are those that make one change their habits or to come to a moment of realization. There are moments during my professional career that helped me inspire action. For example, there is a time when members of my team were having major disagreements, which brought a lot of disorder.
I realized that they were all trying to achieve the same goal but had different perspectives on how to get there. I explained to them that they were all right, only from different points of view. 2 Cont’d I had a defining moment which helped me build trust. I was able to build trust when I got the support of my teammates. I thought that I always had to be at my best.
They always went out of their way to help me. However, having people to help me inspired me to become trustworthy to other people. Another defining moment occurred that helped me build trust. When I was working with a team of community volunteers, I realized how much support they gave me. I initially though that I always have to get everything right and be at my best everyday.
Whenever they went out of their way to help me, I learned to trust them more. I was inspired to be that way towards other people- someone people could trust. 3 Cont’d I had a defining moment that helped develop my leadership skills. I discovered the dangers of being self-serving and self-centered. I was able to see followers through the eyes of a leader.
I saw the need to serve them and lead by example. One of the defining moments that helped me develop my leadership skills was when I discovered how being self-serving and self-centered could be devastating to followers or team members. When I was appointed the leader, I realized I had a lot of influence on the people and for the first time, I was able to see followers through the eyes of a leader. I knew I had to serve them and lead them by example. 4 Professional Ethics Ethical principles vary from one profession to another.
There are universal professional ethics. The ones I value the most are: Integrity Accountability Obeying the law Ethical principles may vary from one profession to another due to the nature of work, for example a lawyer may have different professional ethics from a doctor. However, there are various universal professional ethics which cut across professions. The ones I value the most include Integrity- I always like to do things the right and open way Accountability- I like to take responsibility for my actions, good or bad. Obeying the law- I always want to make sure that whatever I do does not collide with the law.
5 Leadership Goals As a leader, I aspire to achieve the following: Listening to diverse points of view (Kouzes & Posner, 2021). Lead by example Be a mentor Adapt to change with ease Give constructive feedback As a leader, I hope to enhance my listening skills, as well as have an open mind towards listening to different points of views. I also want to lead by example and not just tell people to do what I cannot do myself. I want the people I lead look up to me and feel inspired by me to do greater things and develop themselves. Change is inevitable, and whenever it comes, I always want to be ready to adapt to the new environment.
Feedback is important in communication, and I strive to always give constructive feedback, rather than tell people discouraging and meaningless feedback. 6 Leadership Values My values as a leader have an impact on the people I lead. The more diverse a team is, the more diverse and conflicting values there are. I may not represent all personal values. I attempt to harmonize my values with those of the people.
My leadership values always impacts the people I lead, either directly or indirectly. This means that I should be wise when determining my leadership values. The more diverse a team is, the more likely that there will be different and sometimes, conflicting values. As a leader, I may not represent all these individual values, but I can always sieve through them and pick what I think will serve the greater good of the team. My leadership values are a product of my personal values and those of my team members.
7 Cont’d The following are some of my leadership values: Respect Service Family (Badaracco, 2006). Consistency Some of my leadership values are: Respect- As a leader, I command respect by the way I carry myself, which includes how I treat other people. I also expect them to be respectful to one another. Service- I believe that a leader is more of a servant. Family- I believe that the people I lead have the right to take care of their families, and when something happens to any of their loved ones, they should be excused for a while.

Hello, my name is Cara Telleysh, and I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Leadership at Walden University. Defining Moments
Reflecting on my life, several defining moments stand out and have played an important role in shaping the leader I am today. One of the key milestones was my graduation from High Point University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education/Recreation. This moment solidified my desire to work in a service-oriented field, leading to a 25-year career with the YMCA, where I learned the importance of commitment and nurturing connections (Kouzes & Posner, 2021).
Another crucial moment was my tenure as Manager of Volunteer Services. Here, I interacted with individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering a spirit of collaboration while discussing strategies to support children with life-threatening illnesses. This experience catalyzed a deeper sense of purpose, transforming my job into a passion that epitomized altruism, community, and gratitude (Badaracco, 2006).
Lastly, my decision to run a marathon to raise funds for the ASPCA was a defining moment wherein I experienced self-discipline and determination. My Ethics and Values

The personal values influencing my leadership style include:

Goals and Action Plan
Setting clear goals steers my leadership journey toward successful outcomes. Firstly, I aim to cultivate positive social change by empowering others through coaching and mentorship. Furthermore, I plan on enhancing communication through both verbal and nonverbal interactions, as the links between engagement, influence, and leadership effectiveness are critical (John, 2009).
Once I identify a weak leadership skill, I will integrate it into my monthly action plans, ensuring continuous improvement as a leader. My ultimate benchmark for success remains my anticipated graduation in July 2022, marking the culmination of my academic endeavors.
