It spans from approximately 5° North latitude to 34° South latitude and from 35° West longitude to 74° West longitude (CIA, 2023). Remarkably, the equator passes through northern Brazil, crossing near the town of Macapá in the state of Amapá (Weber, 2023). Covering an expansive area of about 8.5 million square kilometers (3.3 million square miles), Brazil is the fifth-largest country in the world, both by area and population, with an estimated population of over 213 million as of 2023 (World Bank, 2023). The capital city, Brasília, was purposefully constructed in 1960 to promote development in the central part of the country, surrounded by vast federal district lands rich in biodiversity and modern infrastructure (Melo, 2022).
Brazil shares its borders with ten countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela, and French Guiana. This extensive land border provides significant geographic advantages, including access to diverse markets and trade routes (Batista, 2023). Notable landmarks within the country include the Amazon Rainforest, the Pantanal wetlands, and several prominent mountains such as the Serra do Mar.
