  • Why did you select this resource/site? Why do you find the subject/topic interesting?
  • What is the one thing you want others to know about this subject/topic that is found on the website?
  • What information had the greatest impact on you? Explain.

In your peer replies, ask questions about the subject/topic that you are curious about and offer new resources. Support your answers with evidence from the site that you visited and provide a citation for that website.

Paper For Above Instructions

For this assignment, I chose to explore the website on climate change published by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The address is https://climate.nasa.gov/. I selected this resource because climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing our world today. As a student and a member of the global community, I believe it is crucial to understand the factors contributing to climate change and the potential impacts on future generations.

The subject of climate change interests me for several reasons. Firstly, it encompasses a wide array of disciplines, including environmental science, policy, economy, and social justice. Secondly, the science behind climate change is fascinating; it involves complex interactions between the atmosphere, oceans, and land systems. Lastly, the topic is increasingly relevant as we are already experiencing severe weather events attributable to climate change, and I want to contribute positively to discussions about sustainability and environmental responsibility.

One key takeaway from the NASA website is that the primary cause of climate change is human-induced greenhouse gas emissions. This finding is vital because it emphasizes the role that individuals and industries play in contributing to these emissions, primarily through the burning of fossil fuels for energy, deforestation, and industrial activities (NASA, 2022). Understanding this connection is important for inspiring action and promoting more sustainable practices across various sectors of society.

The information that impacted me the most was the stark reality of climate change's effects on our planet. According to NASA, global temperatures have already risen by approximately 1.2 degrees Celsius since the late 19th century, and we are on a trajectory that could lead to devastating impacts if significant changes are not made (NASA, 2022). This realization made me reflect on the responsibility I have as an individual to contribute to mitigation efforts, such as reducing my carbon footprint and advocating for sustainable practices in my community.

In exploring further, I found some effective solutions on the website, such as the promotion of renewable energy sources like solar and wind power, improvements in energy efficiency, and the ecological benefits of reforesting areas. I want others to recognize that while the challenge of climate change looms large, there are actionable steps that can be undertaken at various levels — from personal lifestyle changes to large-scale policy shifts.

In my peer replies, I intend to ask questions about their chosen topics, particularly about individuals' roles in combating climate change and the impact of their chosen resources. I hope to engage in a dialogue where we can share new resources, such as documentaries, articles, or reports that may provide additional insights into the subject matter. Each contribution can enhance our collective understanding of the issues at hand and promote further inquiry into the solutions available for addressing climate change.

In conclusion, the NASA climate change website offers valuable insights into the critical challenges posed by our changing climate. It has inspired me to educate myself further and others about the necessity of confronting climate change through individual and collective action.
