Dear Portfolio Reader,

My name is Markus Downe, and I am writing to introduce myself and present the portfolio showcasing my growth in reading, writing, researching, and critical thinking over the course of this semester. The purpose of this letter is to provide context for the work included in this portfolio and to illustrate the dedication and effort I have put into developing the skills outlined in the course Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).

Within this portfolio, I have included two critical pieces: my Short Paper Revision Project and an annotated revision of my Research Essay. The Short Paper Revision Project consists of multiple drafts that highlight the revisions made based on feedback. As you review this piece, please pay particular attention to the comments I have placed in the margins, which indicate my thought process during the revisions and my reflections on the feedback received. The Research Essay, meanwhile, represents my ability to integrate diverse sources and develop a well-structured argument. I have annotated this version to show how I utilized various research methodologies and writing strategies to enhance my argument.

Over the course of this semester, I have experienced substantial personal and academic growth. One significant aspect of my development has been the ability to engage more critically with texts, which I have tied to the SLOs outlining critical thinking skills. I encountered various challenges, such as honing my thesis statements and managing academic sources effectively. Nevertheless, I have made concerted efforts to work on these issues, which I believe is evidenced by the improvements in the aforementioned portfolio pieces.
