It will help you to read actively, as a participant in a conversation with the text. You will use it to record your thoughts, feelings and ideas – your reactions to the readings.
A record of such reactions teaches you important analysis skills, but without the punitive consequences of a check for errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I will assess mechanics skills in your essays and exams, but not so much in journal entries, which again serve you, not me. When I grade these I will check for two qualities: 1. Length – each entry should be at least one typed page . 2.
Analysis – you must not , under any circumstances, summarize the text . Assume I’ve read the piece. Don’t tell me the story, poem, essay, etc. all over again. Instead, react to it – talk back to it – in your own words. However, you must refer to details from the text in order to convince me you’ve read.
You should have one typed journal entry per week . You may respond to any of the readings assigned for that week, but I recommend only taking on one reading at a time so as not to dilute your response. Don’t try to respond to everything. You learn more by focusing – by both zeroing in on and by deeply exploring a single text. Any questions please let me know.
My community is Liberty County in Hinesville, GA or you can use Fort Stewart in GA this is where I live. Explore what transportation to medical and mental health appointments is available in the community that you are using for your final project, as well as the regulatory and funding regulations in the area. Who funds that transportation? What state regulations are there related to transporting patients to health appointments? How do policies impact the clients that need transportation?
If you are having trouble finding the information, who will you ask for more information? Post a one- to two-paragraph description of your findings in a journal entry. In your response, specifically address the following critical elements: a. Identify the community you will use in support of the final project. b. Discuss the transportation options that are available in your community for people who have disabilities.
Are there any limitations (such as minimum notice requirements for scheduling, transportation is to be used only for medical appointments, etc.) on its use? c. How does the state funding policy for these transportation services affect their use? In other words, is there a financial limitation on the services each client receives or wishes to use? Is prior approval required? How are the providers and/or clients reimbursed by the state? d.
As a presenter, how might you encourage stakeholder discussion on and engagement with the regulatory environment and the state’s requirements of the agency for provision of services? For example, what are the legal and ethical implications of not abiding by these policies? Possible resource: NAMI State Mental Health Service Funding Guidelines for Submission: Your journal entry should be a minimum of 300 words in length, typed and double-spaced, using 12-point Times New Roman font and one-inch margins. Journal Entry on Transportation for Medical and Mental Health Appointments in Liberty County, GA
Community Overview
For this analysis, I will focus on Liberty County, particularly the city of Hinesville, Georgia, which is my area of residence. This community has a significant population, including many individuals with disabilities who require accessible transportation services to attend various medical and mental health appointments. The availability of adequate transportation options is crucial for people with health conditions as it impacts their ability to access care.
Transportation Options
In Liberty County, several transportation options are available for individuals who have disabilities. One primary provider is the Liberty Transit, which offers public transportation services to residents, including those with disabilities. Their paratransit services ensure that individuals with mobility issues can receive door-to-door transportation to medical and mental health appointments (Liberty Transit, 2023).
Additionally, various nonprofit organizations in the area, such as the American Red Cross, provide transportation assistance for medical appointments, usually geared towards those who are low-income or unable to drive. Moreover, some local hospitals offer volunteer driver arrangements where volunteers assist patients in need of transportation (Hinesville Area Medical Center, 2023).
Limitations
However, there are limitations associated with these services. For instance, Liberty Transit requires a minimum notice of 24 to 48 hours ahead of the scheduled appointment, limiting immediate access. Transportation provided by nonprofits often requires pre-registration and may only operate during specific hours (Hinesville Area Medical Center, 2023). Furthermore, Medicaid’s Non-Emergency Medical Transportation policy stipulates that this service is exclusively for medical appointments and often requires prior approval (Georgia Department of Community Health, 2023).
Financial Implications
Regarding state funding, these transportation services often rely on federal and state grants, including Medicaid reimbursements. Consequently, clients may face financial limitations, as Medicaid may only cover transportation expenses if they secure prior authorization. The process can be tedious, and delays in approval may hinder individuals' ability to attend necessary appointments (Georgia Department of Community Health, 2023). Given this system, it is crucial to address how the regulatory policies directly affect the accessibility of transportation services for clients who need them.
Encouraging Stakeholder Discussion
As a presenter, I would emphasize the importance of involving stakeholders in discussions around the regulatory environment and the implications of state requirements. Engaging these stakeholders opens a dialogue about the legal and ethical ramifications of non-compliance with transportation policies. It highlights the necessity for transparent communication channels between clients and providers to facilitate better healthcare access (NAMI, 2023).

Analysis of Postpartum Depression (PPD)
Proposed Topic
For my analysis paper, I have chosen the topic of Postpartum Depression (PPD), a significant mental health concern that affects 10-15% of new mothers (O'Hara & Swain, 1996). PPD includes various mood disorders that arise following childbirth and can lead to substantial distress in new mothers and their families if not adequately diagnosed and treated.
Potential References
1. O'Hara, M. W., & Swain, A. M. (1996). "Rates and risk of postpartum depression: A meta-analysis." International Review of Psychiatry, 8(1), 37-54.
Relation to Topic: This foundational research provides a comprehensive meta-analysis examining the prevalence and risk factors associated with PPD. It will serve as a critical reference that outlines the statistical landscape of PPD, which sets the stage for discussing the significance of the issue.
Application in Paper: I will utilize this source to present a statistical overview of PPD, highlighting its prevalence and the impact it has on maternal and family health.
2. Stewart, D. E. (2003). "Postpartum depression." BMJ, 326(7403), 552-553.
Relation to Topic: This article provides an insightful look into the signs, symptoms, and treatment options for PPD. It discusses newer findings and treatment modalities that may be less known to the public and healthcare providers, making it a vital source for comprehensive understanding.
Application in Paper: I will reference this source to explore treatment strategies for PPD, addressing potential gaps in care that exacerbate the condition among new mothers.
3. American Psychological Association. (2019). "Postpartum Depression." Retrieved from https://www.apa.org/topics/postpartum-depression.
Relation to Topic: The APA provides accessible information on PPD, its symptoms, and treatment. It's valuable for understanding how PPD is viewed within the broader mental health context, allowing for a multidisciplinary approach to treatment.
Application in Paper: This resource will be utilized to support the discussion on the societal perception of PPD and the necessary health care frameworks needed to address it effectively.
Logical Integration
Integrating these references will create a well-rounded discussion on PPD by addressing its statistical prevalence, symptomatology, treatment options, and the broader psychological implications. By drawing on supportive literature, I will be able to substantiate my arguments and provide a comprehensive view on how PPD not only affects mothers' health but also has lasting implications on child development and family dynamics.
