This technique was revolutionized by artists like Filippo Brunelleschi and later utilized by masters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Notably, the artworks from this period reflect humanism, an intellectual movement that emphasized the value and agency of individuals and drew inspiration from classical antiquity. Additionally, the Renaissance saw the development of oil painting, which allowed for more vibrant colors and finer details, distinguishing this era's masterpieces from previous works (Gombrich, 2013). Iconic pieces such as the "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Judgment" exemplify the period's emphasis on the human experience and spiritual expression (Kleiner, 2016). Renaissance Today
In considering whether we are experiencing a modern-day Renaissance, I argue that we indeed are. The contemporary era is marked by a significant surge in creativity and innovation across multiple disciplines such as technology, art, science, and social reform. Similar to the Renaissance, our current age is characterized by a widespread exchange of ideas facilitated by global connectivity through the internet. This has led to the rapid advancement of technology, much like the technological breakthroughs of the Renaissance period (Rifkin, 2014). For instance, the development of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and digital art represents a new frontier that parallels the spirit of exploration and experimentation seen in the Renaissance. Moreover, the increased focus on sustainability and social justice reflects humanist values reminiscent of those emphasized during the Renaissance. As artists, scientists, and thinkers today challenge conventional wisdom and push against the boundaries of what is possible, it is evident that we are navigating a time rich with potential, much like the transformative period of the Renaissance.
