When one is motivated in any of the task done, it gives them a continuing spirit to do the good work. Assignment 2: DiSC Assessment ReflectionDiSC Style: Influence
The Influence style, as described in the Everything DiSC Management Profile, characterizes my management personality as one that thrives on creating a network and fostering relationships both personally and professionally. Individuals with an Influence style prefer to engage socially, bringing enthusiasm and optimism to their interactions. They possess the capability to inspire and excite their teams, making them receptive to goals and ideas (Wheeler, 2020). However, while this style can stimulate great creativity and collaboration, it can also lead to challenges, such as being overly optimistic, which may conflict with more skeptical perspectives within the team. Furthermore, individuals with an Influence style are known for being expressive communicators, often utilizing gestures to capture attention, but this can come across as overly talkative or less focused during high-pressure situations (McGowan, 2021).
This self-description aligns closely with my personality and management style, reflecting my ability to rally teams around shared goals and create an engaging work atmosphere. I recognize that my eagerness to be the center of attention can manifest as an inclination to speak impulsively, especially during stressful circumstances.
Surprise of Results
My results were somewhat surprising and yet very affirming. Upon reflection, they accurately described aspects of my character that I had not consciously recognized. The sentiment echoed by my friends about my enthusiastic nature paralleled the insights derived from my DiSC assessment. Even traits that were unexpected were nonetheless reflective of deeper characteristics that I have not fully articulated before. Therefore, the results served to validate my self-perception and resolve to harness those strengths more effectively in a managerial capacity (Smith & Jones, 2020).
Priorities Identification
Upon reviewing my DiSC report, I identified three primary priorities: Action, Encouragement, and Collaboration. These priorities highlight my inclination to act quickly and inspire others towards achievement. Emphasizing action allows me to propel projects forward with high energy, while encouragement reflects my dedication to uplifting team members, recognizing their contributions (Fitzgerald, 2020). Lastly, collaboration resonates deeply with me, as I believe diverse perspectives yield superior quality work, further reinforcing team cohesion.
Situations Reflecting Priorities
In the first situation, my focus on collaboration proved instrumental during a group research project. Engaging with my team members to brainstorm and share resources allowed us to build a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. We benefited from pooling individual knowledge, and our project emerged successfully due to this shared commitment (Williams & Roberts, 2021).
In another instance, I faced a personal challenge conflict regarding low self-esteem. Leaning into my priority of encouragement, I leveraged affirmations and supportive interactions to foster resilience. This strategy empowered me to confront difficulties with renewed confidence, ultimately yielding positive outcomes and helping others in similar situations now (Johnson, 2022).
Motivators and Stressors
From my assessment’s list of motivators and stressors, I identified the following:
Motivators:
1. Inspiring others to do their best – Motivation is paramount for team performance; I find personal fulfillment by fostering a positive environment that celebrates achievements.
2. Recognizing the good work of others – Acknowledgment fosters morale and promotes a sense of belonging among team members (Anderson, 2020).
3. Developing warm relationships with team members – Building strong rapport enables open communication, allowing potential issues to surface early, which is crucial for teamwork.
Stressors:
1. Having to slow your pace – I often struggle in environments where decisions are drawn out, as a fast-paced atmosphere energizes me (Carter, 2021).
2. Making tough decisions independently – While I value collaboration, when faced with solitary decision-making pressures, I feel hindered in evaluating potential impacts.
3. Being forceful with others – Naturally inclined towards encouragement, adopting a forceful demeanor clashes with my personality style, creating uncomfortable scenarios.
Strengths and Challenges
In terms of strengths and challenges in directing and delegating, I identified:
Strengths:
1. Giving direction in a friendly manner – This promotes a comfortable atmosphere where team members feel appreciated and motivated to follow (Harrison, 2019).
2. Encouraging problem-solving among colleagues – By empowering my team, I encourage innovative thinking and reduce the burden of stress when faced with challenges.
3. Making contributors feel valued – Positive reinforcement can enhance the overall productivity of a team, contributing to project success (Levine, 2020).
Challenges:
1. Analyzing options before assigning tasks – I often rush to assign, which may undermine thorough decision-making.
2. Creating a reliable setting – Establishing structure can be challenging when aiming to maintain a flexible and encouraging environment.
3. Highlighting the importance of routine tasks – Routine chores can be easily overlooked; I sometimes fail to emphasize their significance, leading to overall team discontent (Miller & Associates, 2020).
Careers Aligned with Influence Style
Three careers that align with the Influence personality are Project Management (Marketing), Tutoring (Preschool Teacher), and Office Manager. These fields require a harmonious blend of effective communication, motivation, and team involvement—traits corresponding to my DiSC style (O’Donnell, 2021). Project management thrives on inspiring teams, while tutoring allows for the nurture of relationships with emerging learners. Office management presents opportunities to motivate diverse group dynamics, embodying characteristics that energize and encourage success.
Conclusion
Reflecting on my DiSC assessment results provides valuable insights into my management style and personality. Understanding my strengths in encouragement and collaboration, alongside recognizing potential stressors and challenges, equips me to develop more nuanced approaches in team environments. By leveraging my enthusiasm as an influencer, I can strive for not only personal growth but also foster success in my future career endeavors.
