However, recognition alone may not be sufficient. Various strategies can enhance learner motivation. For instance, goal-setting activities can empower students by allowing them to take ownership of their learning. As Locke and Latham (2002) noted, specific and challenging goals lead to higher performance than easy, unspecified aims. This approach grants students a sense of direction and increases their intrinsic motivation to work hard.
Furthermore, providing opportunities for self-reflection encourages students to examine their progress and recognize the effort they invest in achieving their goals. Self-reflection has been shown to promote metacognition, allowing students to control their learning processes better (Zimmerman, 2002). Educators might also consider integrating various learning activities, such as project-based learning and gamification (Deterding et al., 2011), to maintain student interest and enhance the learning experience.
