Preparation of 1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1H-pyrrole/indole (1a-1b) A well-stirred mixture of pyrrole/indole (0.128 mol) and K2CO3 (35.4 g, 0.257 mol) in DMF (150 mL) was heated at 100 °C for 30 min. Then, p-fluoronitrobenzene (21.6 g, 0.153 mol) was added and the mixture was stirred for another 5 h. Upon cooling to room temperature, the mixture was poured into water (300 mL) to stir for 30 min and filtered.
