Question

Perform the following temperature conversions: (You do not need to use scientific notation to give your answers) a) The temperature of warm summer day is 87 degree F. What is this temperature in degree C, and K? b) The minimum temperature to be considered fever is 38 degree C. What is this temperature in degree F, and K? c) The lowest natural temperature ever directly recorded at ground level on Earth was 184 K; which was recorded at the Soviet Vostok Station in Antarctica, on July 21, 1983. Convert this temperature to degree C, and degree F.

Explanation / Answer

a) Temperature of warm summer day = 87F

Temperature in Celsius = (Temperature in Fahrnehit - 32)/1.8

=> (87-32)/1.8

=> 55/1.8 = 30.555C

Temperature in Kelvin = 273 + Temperature in Celsius

=> 273 + 30.5555

=> 303.5555 K

b)

Temperature in Fahrneheit= Temperature in Celsius * 1.8 + 32

=> 38 * 1.8 + 32

=> 100.4F

Temperature in Kelvin = 273 + Temperature in Celsius

=> 273 + 38

=> 311K

c)

Temperature in Celsius = Temperature in Fahrneheit - 273

=> 184 - 273

=> -89C

Temperature in Fahrneheit

=> -89 * 1.8 + 32

=> -128.2F
