Problems (40 points) The body mass index (BMI) is a value derived from the mass and height of an individual. The BMI is defined as the body mass divided by the square of the body height, and is universally expressed in units of kilograms per meter squared (kg/m2) A 62" man weighs 200 lbs. If 1 kg = 2.2 lb and 1 m = 39.37". Calculate the BMI for this individual. (8 points) The threshold for obesity is a BMI 2 30. Is this individual obese? (2 points) a. b. 2. Explanation / Answer

Ans 1 :

a) BMI = weight in kg / height in meter squared

200 lbs = 90.7 kg

height = 6'2" = 1.88 m

So putting all the values we get :

BMI = 90.7 / (1.88)2

= 25.66

b) The threshold for the obesity is equal to or more than 30.

Since here the obesity 25.66 , which is less than 30 , so the individual is not obese.
