Which metal has the highest heat capacity? Explain why one metal has a higher heat capacity than the other. Alonium hos highky hee) copocit ecousie Having determined the heat capacity of both metals predict whether or not the heat capacity of stone would be greater than, less to or equal to iron. Explain your answer. 2. Chemistry 131 University of South AExplanation / Answer
The heat capacity of a substance is defined as the heat energy needed to raise its temperature by 1K. The amount of heat energy change depends on the nature of the substance, how much substance is being heated and what rise in temperature occurs. The heat capacity of stone is higher than that of an iron. This is because metals are the good conductor of heat so they rapidly transfer to a colder object or surrounding in contact with it whereas the stone made of concrete are the poor conductor of heat, they do not easily lose the heat absorbed by them. That is why they take more time to heat up and more time to cool down also.
