Question

Can someone define a molecule, isn’t it just a group of 2 or more non metal atoms that are bonded together ,
If it’s H2(diatomic) is it considered a molecule or is it just considered an element/ atom?
Also, some compounds that constitute ionic substances are referred to as molecular compounds, Can someone please explain why are they named in that fashion?
Thank you Can someone define a molecule, isn’t it just a group of 2 or more non metal atoms that are bonded together ,

Explanation / Answer

Molecule is a group of atoms bonded together wich is smallest unit that can take part in a chemical reaction. These atoms can be metallic or non metallic.

H2 is considered a molecule because it is a group of 2 atoms of H bonded together.

Generally molecular compounds are formed between two or more non metals in which there is sharing of electrons.

But in ionic compounds electron transfer takes place .These contains ions not molecules and therefore are different from molecular compounds that contains molecules.
