Question

You are given 2 colorless solutions., one containing NaCl and one C_12H_22O_11). Suggest a chemical test and a physical test to determine which. Nitrous oxide (N_2O) can be produced by the thermal decomposition of NH_4NO_3. The other product is water. Write a balanced equation for this reaction. How many grams of N_2O are formed if 0.46 mole of NH_4NO_3 is used for this reaction? A 0.8870 g sample of a mixture of NaCl and KCl is dissolved in water and the solution is treated with an excess of AgNO_3 to yield 1.913 g of AgCl. Calculate the percentages of NaCl and KCl in the mixture.

Explanation / Answer

a. Take a samll amount of ethanol in a beaker and warm it slightly. Add NaCl salt to it, it will not disslove in ethanol as it is insoluble in ethanol. Whereas, surose will dissolve easily in ethanol.
