Question

Please Refer to the attachments and interpret which way the equilibrium shifted and why it shifts. One or two sentences is ok for each. Thank you!

*Question 2 should read as:

Interpretation of why CoCl2 + NH4Cl has no reaction at room temperature and shifts to the right when boiling. We also heated up a tube of CoCl2 (nothing added) as a controlled substance.

2a) Direction of equilibrium shift for the addition of NH4Cl to CoCl2 at room temperature:

Explanation / Answer

2.

a) Cobalt chloride exists in hydrated state at room temperature and is highly stable and does not dissociate into ions easily.Addition of NH4Cl has not effect on shift in equilibrium

b) At boiming point hexahydrate dehydrates and CoCl2 dissociates into ions. Addition of NH4Cl will shift equilibrium from left to right.

3.

a) NaOAc will increase concentration of OAc- and according to Lechatlier's principle equilibrium will shift equilibrium from right to left.

b) Addition of NaOH will increase concentration of H3O+ and according to Lechatlier's principle equilibrium will shift equilibrium from right to left.

4

a) Due to Fe(N03)3 Fe3+ concentration will increase and equilibrium will shift from left to right.

b) Due to KSCN, SCN- concentration will increase and equuilibrium will shift from left to right.

5.

HCl will provide ionic environment to NaCl and more Na+ and Cl- ions would be formed.
