Climate controls (altitude- latitude- ocean currents- wind patterns- land/water contrast) are important in determining the temperature and precipitation profile for any location on the surface of the earth. Be sure to identify and explain how these five climate controls impact temperature and precipitation of St. Louis, Missouri and Jakarta, Indonesia using both cities climographs.

(a) how do the five factors influencing climate patterns affect St. Louis, Missouri and Jalarta, Indonesia, (b) do the five controls affect each location differently? (c) are some factors more influential on the climate than others at each location.

Answer- various climatic parameter like temperature, latitude, pressure, altitude, presence of oceanic currents warm/cold , proximity of ocean and presence of wind are major factor that plays very important role in determining the climate of the region and also determine temperature profile and also precipitation pattern in the region.
St. Louis, Missouri- it is located in the western bank of Mississippi river. it is located in the trasitional zone of Humid subtropical climate and humid continental climate. characterized by the hot summer and cool to cold summer. St. Louis is located in such location that is there is absence of water bodies and large mountain that regulate the surface temperature. climate is alternatively influcenced by the warm current generated from Guld of Mexico and cold current generated from Arctic. It expericence 48 days of Tornadoes in year. Generally winter is dry but In the winter there is presence of prevailing wind from North-west to south east direction.
Jakarta, Indonesia- It experience tropical monsoon climate. it located 6.1751° S, 106.8650° E closely located near equator and located near Java sea. it located in flat lieing basin elevation generally ranges from 0-50m. temperature of Jakarta ranges from 24-30 degree celcius. it experience heavy precipitation at the time of moonsoon and winter experience modest precipitation. Jakarta experience warm and humid climate throughout the year. it also epxerience south asian monsoon during the month of June- August.
the factor the influence the climatic Pattern of St. Louis and Jakarta are following
- latitude- jakarta is located near equator so it experience warm and humid throughout year and St Louis located lies around tropics of cancer. so it remain dry in winter.
- proximity of water bodies (Land-water contrast)- jakarta is located near equator and also near Java. it is influcenced by the oceanic currents present in java sea throughout the sea and also experience South Asian Monsoon which yield heavy precipitation in rainy season. and also yield moderate temperature throughout year. on other side St. Louis located far from water bodies ( Gulf of Mexico) so Gulf of Mexico have less influence in the climate of St. Louis. it also experience Cool-cold current under the influence of cold current generated from arctic sea.
these 5 factor ( temperature, pressure, presence of wind currents, ocenic currents, altitude, land and water contrast ( proximity of water bodies) can act independently influenced the climate the region
.ex- polar region experience cold climate due to latitude, region located near ocean or sea experience low annual temperature range and low diurnal temperature range)
mountainous region of himalya experience cold climate throughout year due to its altitude.
