Pick a period in Western history OR a non-Western traditional society and write about the role of women in that period or society. You could, for example, examine the role of women in ancient Greek society, Roman society, medieval society, and/or in American society in antebellum South or in the industrial North before the Civil War. Or you could examine the role of women in traditional Arabic tribal society, African society, Latin American tribal society, Inuit culture, and so forth. (You can research any one of these topics through the library or by utilizing good online resources; this is a mini research project.) You can focus on one or more than one society, depending on your own interest in the research. Resources Read the following article that offers a brief historical overview by T. role of women in ancient greek- they have few rights in comparision to male citizens. there were unable to vote, own land ,or inherit, a women's place was in the home and her purpose in life was to care about children and about to make food for all and to feed them.there were also catagories of women which are less well-documented than others such as professional women who worked in shops and as prostitutes and courtesans; the social rules and customs applied to them are even more vague than for the other females.
considering their limited role in actual society there is a surprisingly strong cast of female character in greek religion and mythology. Athena , the goddess of wisdom and patron of athens stands out as a powerful figure blessed with intelligence , courage and hounour.ancient cultures where agriculture was crucial to the community ,female fertility goddess were extremly important and particularly venerated -demeter and persrphone being the most revered for the greeks.
womens of course were also present in the various other non citizen classes.as slaves they would have perfomed all member of duties and they would also have worked in business such as shop and bakeries.
