Today, in Brazil there is an income dilemma based solely upon color. Increasingly, people of Brazil are recognizing the large social inequality evident along color lines. According to the textbook, the income divide is significant in Brazil. Shown on the illustration (p. 355) people of color are disproportionately grouped in the lowest income levels of society. The degree of inequality between Whites and people of color is much greater in Brazil than in the United States. From the very beginning, certain civilian occupations were closed to Blacks, such as diplomatic and military officer ranks Currently, in Brazil, Whites earn 26 percent more then Blacks. Clearly, there is an income and wage discrimination between Whites and all people of color in Brazil. Unfortunately, this inequality will not fix itself over night. The Brazilian people need strong solutions and effect legislation to prohibit income discrimination from continuing. Adversely, if income discrimination persists, it will not only affect the people earning the lower wages, but their children will not benefit from a higher income household which can offer them a better education, safe living environment and quality healthcare.

Brazil is one of the most unequal countries in the world in terms of income, with the top 10% of the socioeconomic distribution holding 46.9% of the total income. Even the income of whites is slightly more than double that of black or brown. Income disparity is a major source of social inequality in Brazil. The causes of Brazil's income disparity are linked to inequitable distribution of public resources, disadvantages in education, and a wage gap. Public spending is regressive overall; while social programs are largely progressive, other spending, such as pensions for public employees, constitutes a larger share of total spending, and is weighted toward individuals with higher incomes. This discrimination directly effects education of black children. the black people are not able to offer good education, basic medical facilities, and other basic facilities ue o this discrimination.
