B) What kind of materials would I expect those rings to be made of if they were around a terrestrial planet vs. a Jovian planet? Why? [Hint: why might the formation of a solar system be helpful to answer part B?]
Explanation / Answer
Q1.) The surfacetemperature of a terrestrial planet is determined by how much energy the planet receives from the Sun and how quickly it radiates that solar energy back to space. A terrestrial planet's interior temperature is determined by its size. The crust is a very poor conductor of any heat from the interior so the surface heat is all from the Sun.
Q2) for asteroids and metioroids, we can find the relative age of their surfaces but cannot get their exact ages.
Q3) They could be made up of billions of particles of rock, ice and dust.
