Please I want someone to answer it all for me
Part 1 (Outside of Lab: your , your to the following )In wordsripe answers questions. Use own complete sentences and cite all sources used. 1. Extrusive and intrusive igneous rocks have different modal crystal sizes. Below are 2 circles, provide illustrations that demonstrate the major difference between modal crystal sizes for an extrusive and intrusive rock. 2. What is the most important control on the texture of an igneous rock? Why? 3. What is the difference between obsidian and volcanic glass? 4. The continental crust is of a granitic composition - which samples that you looked at in lab would you expect to find on the continental crust? Discuss the mineral composition of each of these samples. 5. The oceanic crust is of a basaltic composition - which samples that you looked at in lab would you expect to find on the oceanic crust? Discuss the mineral composition of each of these samples. 6. Per Bowens reaction series, what is the order of crystallization in a granite? What about a gabbro? 7. As fractional crystallization occurs, what is happening to the silica concentration of the magma 8. In your lifetime, there have been numerous sensational incidents involving igneous processes and people getting injured. Find and briefly describe a recent example.Explanation / Answer
1. The major difference between modal crystal sizes for an extrusive and intrusive rock is that extrusive rocks are formed OUTSIDE THE EARTH and the mineral crystals present within the rock are very small, where as the intrusive rocks are formed INSIDE THE EARTH and the crystal present are large and grains are visible to naked eye.
2. The most important control on the texture of an igneous rock is COOLING RATE. This cooling rate is considered as major control because it is reflected in the rock's texture and one more thing here is Cooling rate can greatly affect crystal size of igneous rock.
3. Obsidian is defined as natural glass which is harder than window glass. With as low as 1 percentage of water content obsidian can increase the viscosity and this increased viscosity IMPEDES crystallization. Where as Volcanic glass is unstable and can change easily with its viscosity very high and this high viscosity can easily INHIBITI crystallization.
6. Granite would be good example to determine the order of crystallization of minerals in igneous rock compared to feldspar. Because granite will crystallize first and usually has well formed crystalline shapes. According to Bowen's reaction as granite cools and melt Biotite mica and Feldspar crystallize even before Quartz.
7. As fractional crystallization occurs, silicate melts i.e magma is complex compared to the crystallization in chemical substances. The concentration of magma is transformed to the rocks lower in the series only through fractional crystallization. Also when magma cools fractional crystallization crystallizes in reverse order of partial melting which is similar to partial melting in which the composition of Magma can change.
8. The recent example involving igneous process and people getting injured is the volcanic eruption in the year 2016 occurred in WESTERN INDONESIA(MOUNT SINABUNG) which involved several deaths and some serious injuries. Due to this incident several villages near by were covered by thick layer of ash after the eruption.
