Explanation / Answer

1)

Answere a- Point a is not a typical front. However mid latitude cyclones under the influence of the westerlies will move towards east. Therefore point a will soon be under the influence of a warm front (shown in picture by the line marked by red semi circles).

Answere b- Point b is definitely a warm front.

Answere c- Point c represents a warm sector. A warm front had just passed over it soon to be followed by a cold front.

2)

Precipitation is most likely to occur in points B and D. At point B the approach of the warm front onto the cold polar air mass will result in the formation of clouds, as the warm air expands and cools adiabatically. At point D the cold front stikes the warm maritime tropical air mass, causing it to rise and condense. Therefore precipitaion is most likely to occur in point B and D. However slight snowfall is observed at points F and G.

3)

Answere is c- As a warm front passes, a station witnesses a fall in atmospheric pressure and considering the given criteria (i) the cyclone is moving form west to east (ii) the reference station is moving from point A and B, there will be an observed rising of atmospheric pressure and the wind direction will be from south to north. The source of such winds would be the maritime tropical winds.

4)

Answere is a - As the reference point shifts from C to D the pressure will decrease and precipitation will increase due to the approach of the cold front.

5)

Answere is c - A drop in temperature and precipitation followed by a clear sky.
