Budget line:

400 = 2X + 4Y, Or

200 = X + 2Y (dividing both sides by 2)

MUX = dU / dX = 0.5 x (Y / X)0.5

MUY = dU / dY = 0.5 x (X / Y)0.5

MRS (X, Y) = MUX / MUY = Y / X

In optimality, MRS = PX / PY

Or, Y / X = 2 / 4 = 1 / 2

X = 2Y

Substituting in budget line:

200 = X + 2Y = 2Y + 2Y = 4Y

X = 2 x 50 = 100
