Explanation / Answer

The age discrimination prevents compartmentilization of people on the basis of age in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. This is as per the Age Discrimination Act of 1975. As per the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA), there is a provision for protectection of certain applicants and employees who are greater than equal to 40 from discrimination on the basis of age in hiring, promotion, discharge, compensation, or terms, conditions or privileges of employment. This act is enforced by the  Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in contrast to the Age Discrimination Act of 1975 which is enforced by the Civil Rights Center.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 is still in effect today and it eliminated practices such as hiring of employees on the basis of age and denial of benefits based on age. Though some age discrimination in employment still exists in the US, federal law doesn’t embrace such discrimination which is important, because enactment of a law is of paramount importance in changing attitudes. Now, an ambitious senior person wanting to enter the workforce is much better protected.

Those born 2 decades after World War II are the Baby Boomers that has altered educational, employment, commercial and health policy as they have aged. The eldest Boomers with their generational successors close behind are entering the senior status. With the impact that Boomers have had on the society and the protections of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), it is obvious that discrimination against them would decrease as seniors become a growing proportion of the society but the reverse has been true. Changes in employment practices and economic shrinkage have led to an increase in workplace challenges facing older workers. The act is mainly targeted towards preventing discrimination on the basis of age so no minority groups have been affected.
