Question
I am really lost on this physics momentum problem. I dont even know where to start.
Two stones A and B experience a collision as shown in the figure. Initially, stone B was at rest and stone A has a horizontal velocity of 2.0 m/s heading cast. Mass of A is 5.0 kg and mass of B is 3.0 kg. After collision. stone A is heading 30 degree above the positive x-axis with a final velocity of 1.0 m/s (as shown in the figure). A) Make detailed tables of ''before collision'' (initial) and ''after collision'' (final) momenta. Use a separate sheet. Calculate the x component of the final velocity of B (use conservation of momentum) C) Calculate the y component of the final velocity of B (use conservation of momentum) What is the angle beta that stone B makes with the x-axis after collision?
Explanation / Answer
I will give you a heads up!
Balance momentum in x axis once by taking all their momentum components in x axis
then balance momentum in y-axis
