Question
For the circuit shown in the figure, R1 = 5.6 ?, R2 = 5.6 ?, R3 = 14 ?, and ? = 6.0 V, and the battery is ideal. Show all formuals and work used in obtaining your answer.
(a) What is the equivalent resistance across the battery?
(b) Find the current through each resistor.
Explanation / Answer
Here R3parallel R2= So their eq resistance = 14.*5.6/ (14+5.6) = 4 ohm
this 4 ohm is in series with R1 , So Req = 4+5.6 = 9.6 ohm (ans)
Now current in the circuit = V/R = 6/9.6 = 0.625 A (ans)
Current through R1 = 0.625 A (ans)
Now R2and R3are in parallel,
SO their brabch current can be obtained by current division rule
FOr R2 IR2 = I*R3/(R2+R3) = 0.625 *5.6/19.6 = 0.1786A (Ans)
Current through R3 = 0.625 - 0.1786 = 0.4464A (Ans)
