Question
Can someone please help me with these questions? I have answers for some of the questions, so for those would you please just point whether it is wrong or not, if it is wrong, please provide a correct answer.
Thanks!
1. A "lost" asteroid is located in deep space traveling at constant velocity v. Describe one inertial frame and one non-inertial frame for the asteroid.
My answer: Non inertial frame will be a spaceship that follows the track of the asteroid at an accerlerated motion.
Inertial frame will be a satellite that rotates at a constant velocity.
2. A car rounds a bend (assumed circular) with constant speed. Describe any acceleration required to keep the car moving in such a path. If the car rounds the bend while undergoing a change in its speed, how does your answer change?
3. Explain how frictional forces are important during walking or running. (Show knowledge of frictional forces and Newton's laws).
4. A high-speed photograph of a hammer striking a nail shows that the hammer comes to rest in a short time interval following collision. Explain.
5. Why is the gravitational force considered to be a field force? What is another example of a field force?
6. A collision cart in lab crashes into a second cart causing the first cart to come to rest and the second cart to move forward (with the same velocity as the initial velocity of the first cart). How does this occur, according to Newton's laws of motion?
Explanation / Answer
1.-
Non inertial: Given an inertial reference system , any other that moves with linear acceleration relative to the first is non-inertial.
Inertial:In an inertial system fictitious forces do not appear to describe the movement of particles observed , and any variation of the trajectory has to be a real force that causes it .
The answers is correct
2.- The acceleration required to keep the car in seemingly circular or circular motion is called centripetal acceleration. When the mobile or the particle makes uniform circular motion, it is logical that at each point the numerical value of the speed ( the module) is the same, however it is easy to realize that the direction of the velocity vector is changing every instantly.
The variation in direction of the linear acceleration vector causes a call centripetal acceleration. This acceleration has the radius direction and always points toward the center of the circle.
when the car undergoes a change of speed, we say that has angular acceleration.
3.- Friction is a force acting on the materials that are in contact with each other to effect the movement when you walk or run there is only a frictional force between you and the surface where it is otherwise air also offers resistance which opposes its movement which is regarded as a frictional force that restrains their accelerations.
Imagine for a moment that there was no air to curb its accelerations as to change its speed accelerated more and more , to stop would have to have very strong muscles to stop the energy generated in this process. when you walk or run to change its initial state should apply a force, force applied by the muscle of their pirenas there you can see the first and second laws of Newton but as Newton says in his third law that every action occurs a reaction It would be equal and opposite to the frictional force.
4.- when we hit a nail with a hammer all that power is transmitted to the nail in a moment of time. So that all the kinetic energy of the hammer the nail in what is called an elastic collision , during this collision both objects are deformed to quasar of the great forces used is transmitted. the hammer is detine in that short time that transferred all their energy in the collision as explained above. All that energy is transmitted THROUGH nail concentrating on the lower point allowing the nail pierces the surface where you want to place .The hammer then transmit all their energy to nail it slows to zero the chart of this movement it could be compared to a Gaussian bell
5.- that is a force of action at a distance. This means that the forces are generated without any interaction between bodies. Other forces of action at a distance are the electric force, magnetic force , nuclear force.
6.- when the first cart which carries a different constant rate of zero collides with another which is at rest according to the first and second laws of Newton an external force is needed to change from the rest to an object and the change of motion is proportional to the impressed force in the f=m.a. that is why at the time of the collision the first carriage transmits all its energy to the second trolley thus generating a movement in the second trolley with the same speed and cart one suffers an opposing force that slows it down until the rest according to the third newton law every action has a reaction.
