Question

Can someone please explain to me why my professor says that the answer is E to the following question:

Johnny ingests a lot of spaghetti. All of the following are true EXCEPT:

A) OAA and NADPH levels will increase

B) there will be decreased transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria

C) ACC will be activated because of citrate

D) Acetyl CoA will increase to be used in FA Synth

E) Increased insulin will decrease mobilization of fats from myocytes.

I dont see why E is correct. Doesn't dephosphorylation of HSL by insulin activated phosphatase lead to decreased mobilization of fats? Why isn't E true?

Explanation / Answer

Your is professor is right

Insulin promote the synthesis of free fatty acids and triglycerides in muscles, adipose tissue and liver

How..let's see

Insulin stimulate lipiprotein lipase which breaks down circulating triglycerides, thereby increasing free fatty acids in adipose tissue and by providing acetyl CoA and NADPH from alpha glycerophosphate which comes from intracellular glucose.thus insulin increase the deposition of triglycerides

Insulin inhibits hormone sensitive lipase in adipose tissue so decreases the release of FFA from steroid triglycerides. The action of insulin is secondary to decrease in cAMP production

Insulin can imcrease uptake of ketone bodies in thhe muscle
