Procedure: Foraminotomy

This patient was administered general anesthesia and moved into the prone position. The cervical area was prepped and draped in the usual sterile manner. A midline incision was made posteriorly over the C7 vertebra. The incision was carried down to the paravertebral muscles through the lamina to reach the spinal cord. A foraminotomy was carried out, giving exposure to the nerve at C7. Once this was completed the area felt well decompressed. The wound was irrigated and closed with 3-0 coated Vicryl and 4-0 Vicryl in the skin.
