Question
Phys help, can someone answer these questions for me with explanation and detail thanks alot!
The diagram below shows an experimental system designed to measure the magnetic field between two flat magnets. Initially the north pole is facing the south pole, as shown in the diagram. The length of the wire in the magnetic field is 0.060 t 0.001 m DO When no current is applied the balance reads 95.6 t 0.2 g, and when 4.0 t 0.05 A of current is applied the balance reads 93.2 t 0.2 g (a) Draw a diagram showing the magnetic field lines you expect from the permanent mag- nets and from the wire. (b) What is the strength of the magnetic field B between the permanent magnets? Give a quantitative answer, including error estimates (c) What would the balance read if one of the magnets is reversed such that the north face on one magnet is directly opposite the north face of the other magnet? Explain your reasoning Upon further investigation, you discover 20 "coils" wrapped into a square shape, with each side of the square measuring 0.10 t 0.01 m, under the balance plate. The distance from the wire to the coils is 0.020 t 0.001 m. The coil is oriented such that the current-carrying wire (in parts a C above) is located 0.025 t 0.001 m from the left hand edge of the square. You also discover that the "DC" power supply contains a sinusoidal current of 0.30 t 0.01 A in amplitude and at 240 Hz in addition to the DC current listed above. (d) Calculate the induced current flowing in the coils (e) Do you expect the addition of these coils and the sinusoidal ripple to modify the value of B that calculated in part (b)? so, by how much? Justify your answerExplanation / Answer
a) magnetic lines from permanent magnet is from north to south .
magnetic lines from wire is in clockwise direction .
b) strength of magnetic field = 2 * 10-7 * 3/0.005
= 0.12 mT
c) Balance will read = 90.3 gm
This is due to greater upward magnetic force .
d) induced current = 0.12 * 10-3 * 0.002/(2 * 10-7)
= 1.2 A
e) Addition of coils will modify value of B by approximate 0.5 % due to induced currents and eddy current flowing in coil .
