People are already living in a world where they cannot immagine how life is without technology. We are always and have been turning the impossible into the possible. Who wouldve thoughta few centuries agothat todaywe can communicate with each other across two separate countries. Honestly the TED talk has made me a little more excited on how the whole process of organs on chips works. If we are able to recruit and work on this idea for another two decadeswe might actually develop solutions to healthcare problems in a faster and more efficient way.
We are gradually letting technology become a major part of our lives but technology has proven to improve our living standards by a whole new level as well. So I saythe fine line between human innovation and techology lies within the context of whether we are giving rise to something that might pose a threat to human survival. If notwe can consider using these chips at future clinics and hospitals to save money and time. Without technologywe might as well be living a life in North Korea.
Explanation / Answer
There is number of clinical studies documented testing only a single molecule or a compound for years, during this hardcore process many lives are lost. In other words animal models created by the scientist team were not able to mimic the human pathophysiologyclearly. Therefore it is a time need for an alternative technology or ways to give solution for human diseases in order to speed up the development of drugs and therapeutics.
In recent years researchers from different part of the world have introduced a microchip by microengineering technology using fluidic devices to mimic the human organs such as lung, kidney, bone marrow, skin etc. These micro organ chips are made of flexible polymer material introduced in an ideal micro environment to study both cellular and molecular activities of the organ connected to the disease. These organ chips are also been used to culture the microbiome which helps to study the influence of these microbes in health and disease conditions. Micro organ chips are widely used to investigate the environmental factors such as cigarette smoking that affects the health of an individual. The chip is introduced in human to study the human smoking behavior in turn aids to explore the human lung functions. Thus organ chips are helpful in multiple ways.
