Question

Student A is working on spring potential energy experiment on uniform oscillation motion,he created Force (y-axis) vs position (x-axis) graph, calculated the slope function and area under initial and final position. Here is some of the data he collected.

Slope equation = 2.113x+0.759

Area under F vs X graph between X1-X2 = 1.172

T1 = Time(s) = 1.35, Position (m)= 0

T2 = Time(s) = 1.52, Position (m)= 0.75

a- According to data, please calculate Spring Potential Energy change between X1 to X2.

b- Calculate percent error based on given numbers.

Explanation / Answer

We know that the slope of the force position graph gives the spring constant

F= kx

K = 2.113 N/m

E = 1/2kx^2 = 0.6 J

The Error in the K value is at X= 0 , i.e. = 0.759

Hence

E = .21 J

Hence the Error will be around 32 %
