Imagine a pot of water boiling on the stove. As the water is boiling, a circular glass lid of thickness 0.5 cm is placed atop the pot (diameter 16cm), how much thermal energy will flow through it into the room (23 Celsius) every second? (kglass=0.8 Js-1m-1degreesC-1).

Hi these are questions that have been created by my professor. These are very challenging and mostly all students in the class can not figure out how to solve these. Please if you can provide steps and an answer that would be muchly appreciated.

Where T/ n is the temperature gradient in the direction of area A, and k is the thermal conductivity constant obtained by experimentation in W/m.K.

q = 0.8*pi*0.082* (100-23) = 1.2379 watt
