Do Giambattista: Problem 69 (a),(b).(c) with the following parameters (i) All surfaces have a coefficient of kinetic friction =0.25 (ii) The angle between the ramp and the horizontal is 40° (ii) The distance from the bottom of the ramp to the spring is D A 20kg block is released from rest and allowed to slide down a frictionless surface and into a spring. The far end of the spring is attached to a wall as sh The initial height of the block is 0.50 m abowe the low- 0.5 m est part of the slide and the spring coestant is 450 N/ (a) What is the tick's sped when i, atheight of 0.25 m above the base of the slide? :b) How far ithe pring compressed c) The spring sends the block hack to the ft How high does
Explanation / Answer
Here,
a)
Increase in K.E. = Decrease in P.E. of block
let P.E. = 0 at y = 0.25m
0.5*m*v^2 = m*g*y
v = (2*g*y)^1/2 = (2*9.8*0.25)^1/2 = 2.2136 m/s
b)
0.5 * k*x^2 = m * g * y
x = (2*m*g*y/k)^1/2 = (2*2*9.8*0.50/450)^1/2 = 0.2087 m
c)
since the surface is frictionless , no non conservative forces do work on the block.So,the block will return to its previous height 0.50m
