1. Consider the metabolic pathway shown. Circle the correct terms and fill in the blanks to compete the statement. Arrows indicate "activation"; lines indicate "inhibition" In this pathway, product E inhibits /activates enzyme synthesized if there is excess E; an inhibitor that acts on enzyme and H production product C will/ will not be will decrease both EExplanation / Answer
As shown,
In this pathway, the product E inhibits enzyme V ; product C will be synthesized if there is excess E; an inhibitor that acts on enzyme U will decrease both E and H production.
Here the product E is causing feedback inhibition of enzyme V.
Product C is the precursor for the synthesis of E, but C is being synthesized from B with the help of enzyme U. So, the concentration of E has no effect on the synthesis of C as per the pathway given.
Here, C is the precursor for the synthesis of both E and H via other intermediates (D, F, G etc.). If C is not formed, neither of D, F or G will form and so E and H will also not be synthesized. Thus, if an inhibitor blocks the enzyme U which is required for synthesis of C, it will eventually block the production of E and H.
