Part B

The temperature in Browning, Montana, was 44.0 F on January 23, 1916, and the next day it plummeted to -55.8 F. What was the temperature change in Celsius degrees and in kelvins?

Answer in the order indicated. Separate your answers using comma.

TC,TK = C,K

Explanation / Answer

Ti = - 3.80 F

Tf = 45.2 F

in degree Celcius :

Ti = (-3.80 - 32 ) (5/9) = - 19.88 C

Tf = (45.2 - 32 ) (5/9) = 7.33 C

change in temperature = 7.33 - (-19.88) = 27.21

In Kelvin :

Ti = (-3.80 - 32 ) (5/9) + 273.15 = 253.27

Tf = (45.2 - 32 ) (5/9) + 273.15 = 280.48

change in Temperature = 280.48 - 253.27 = 27.21

part B)

Ti = 44 F

Tf = - 55.8 F

in degree Celcius :

Ti = (44 - 32 ) (5/9) = 6.67 C

Tf = (- 55.8 - 32 ) (5/9) = - 48.78 C

change in temperature = - 48.78 - (6.67) = - 55.45

In Kelvin :

Ti = (44 - 32 ) (5/9) + 273.15 = 279.82 C

Tf = (- 55.8 - 32 ) (5/9) + 273.15 = 224.4 C

change in Temperature = 224.4 - 279.82 = - 55.42
