1.a) There is no light coming through the ocular lens and that can happen due to occular lens is not adjusted properly. You can rotate it until get a "tik" sound to be sure that it is set properly.
b) When there is other object than our interest under the focus then we can move the slide horizontally in all the four directions to search for our object to come under the focus.
c) when the specimen is very thin it is difficult to observe but if staining is possible it will give the best image if staining is not possible we can reduce the amount of light coming from the source or increase in some cases to get a better result.
d) If we can not see the parts we are looking for then reducing the wavelength of light increases the resolution of image i.e. we can use the blue light filter on the light source to get a better image.
