The moving bar of a positively charged electroscope diverges further away from its vertical rigid post when an object is brought near the top plate of the electroscope. The object must be:

c. negatively charged

Note: I was confused if it was either negatively or positively charged since the electroscope is positive. I thought that only if the electroscope is uncharged or neutral will the charges be able to separate by attraction and repulsion. Since the electroscope here is positive I thought that only a positive charge can repel and cause the bar to diverge. But in a neutral electroscope a positive charge would attract the negative causing the positive charge to move the bar and vice versa. Im still confused on what happens.
