Question

Can someone explain this problem? An object mass 100kg is initially at rest on a horizontal frictionless surface. At time t = 0, a horizontal force of 10N is applied to the object for 1s and then removed. Which of the following is true of the object a time t = 2 if it is still on the surface.

1)it is at the same position it had at t = 0, since a force of 10N is not large enough to move such a massive object

2) it is moving with decreasing acceleration

3) It is moving with constant nonzero acceleration

4)it is moving at a constant speed

5) it has come to rest some distance away from the position it had at t =0

Explanation / Answer

since after 1 sec no force is acting on the object

so Fnet = 0 therefore

acceleration = 0

since a = 0

speed will be constant ( any doubt comment below)
