Question
Two long parallel wires carry identical magnitudes of current in opposite directions. They are separated by 40cm. If the magnitude of the magnetic field in the plane of the wires at a point that is 30cm from one wire and 70cm from the other is 7.6uT, what is the magnitude of the current in the wires?Need an explanation as to why 20.0A is the answer. Explanation / Answer
here,
let the magnitude of current be I
d = 0.4 m
magnetic feild at P , B = 7.6 * 10^-6 T
magnetic feild due to wire , B = u0 * I/(2*pi*d)
at point P
B = u0*I/2*pi * ( 1/0.3 - 1/0.7)
7.6 * 10^-6 = 1.26 * 10^-6 * I/( 2 * pi ) * ( 1/0.3 - 1/0.7)
I = 20 A
the magnitude of current in the wire is 20 A
