Question

Please explain how to solve the last problem.

The components of a vector are A_x = 10 m and A_y = 2 m. What angle does this vector make with the positive x axis? (counterclockwise from the + x axis) The components of a force are F_x = 25 N and F_y = -38 N. What angle does this force make with the positive x axis? (counterclockwise from the + x axis) The components of an electric field are E_x = -0.3 N/C and E_y = -0.5 N/C. What angle does this electric field make with the positive x axis? (counterclockwise from the + x axis)

Explanation / Answer

Ex = -0.3 N/C , Ey = -0.5 N/C

tan(theta) = Ey/Ex = 0.5/0.3

Theta = 59.04 degrees

But the electric filed lies in third coordinate system

so the angle with positive x axis is = 180 + 59.04

= 239.04 degrees
