Convex and Concave Lens In the above figures f is located at the focal point of the lens. For each statement select True or False. True v An object placed between f and the lens in Fig. a results in an image on the left side of the lens False v An object placed to the left off and the lens in Fig. b produces a virtual image. True v An object placed to the left of f in Fig. b results in an image on the right side of the lens True v An object placed to the left of f in Fig. a results in an image on the left side of the lens True v An object placed to the left of f and the lens in Fig. a produces a virtual image True v An object placed between f and the lens in Fig. a produces a virtual image False v The lens in Fig. a is a converging lens Submit Answer Incorrect Tries 6/15 Previous Tries

Explanation / Answer

Figure a represents a convex or converging lens while figure b represents a concave or diverging lens. A real image is one which is formed by the actual meeting of rays and it is always formed on the other side of the lens while a virtual image is formed when the rays do not actually meet but appear to meet when extended, it is formed on the same side of the lens as the object.
