Question

Part 2: Load the Lab section of the simulator. Set the initial speed to 15 m/s and fire 5 pumpkins at the launch angles specified in the table below. Complete the table below and fully answer the questions. You will find the tools in the simulator (and symmetry arguments) useful. Note horizontal range is Rsin 20 Launch Angle 25° 35° 45 55° 65° Horizontal Range Maximum Height Minimum Velocity Total Time in Flight 1SS1 m .homls2. a) Describe the pattern created by the 5 trajectories and explain why it occurs (using physics -). b) Describe the maximum distance that a pumpkin could be shot in this simulator and calculate that range (you won't be able to simulate it). You should show your calculation and explain your reasoning

Explanation / Answer

From the given question,

a) all the tragectories will be parabolic in shape as they are under the action of gravity.

The range of the projectile will increase till 45 degrees . after that the range decreases.

2. range is given by R= v^2 sin2(theta)/g

range will be maximum when sin2(theta)=1

2(theta)=90

theta=45 degrees

maximum range= v^2/g=15*15/9.8

=23.0 m
