Please explain to gie some understanding if you could rather than an general answer. Thank you

A. Explain why the EPA regulates certain ambient air pollutants as criteria pollutants and what are those pollutants. Describe their sources.

B. (Twopart question). Why VOCs are controlled though the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS)? Explain. Why is smog an extremely difficult pollutant to regulate? Explain.

C. (Two-part Question) What are the sources of primary and secondary pollutants and describe their significance in the context of air pollution control? Describe sources of natural air pollution and their air quality significance.

D.Section 112 of the Clean Air Act describes how HAPs are to be regulated. How the technology standards impact regulatory requirements for both the major source and area source MACT/GACT standards?

Explanation / Answer

a) ozone, particulate matter, carbon mono oxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides and lead . these are the six pollutants considered by EPA they can effect heath and also causes property damage. all of them comes from industrial waste, automobile pollution. burning of fuels etc

b) ozone is the main component of smog which is created by reaction of oxides of nitrogen and voc(volatile organic compounds)

NAAQS has released standards to control the ozone layer so that health is not harmed , second the visibilty on he road and to humans remains intact.

smog is very dangerous because it is a combination of smoke +fog which has been caused by ozone and reduced visibility and cuase respiratory disease so it should rectified

c) pollutant which is directly emited from the source for example carbon monooxide from engine

secondary is which is erived from primry ex smog

there are various sources of air pollution:-

industrial waste, automobles, electrical equipments etc'

d)HAP means hazardous air pollutant . section 112 gives power to conrol specific HPA from the industries . these are technology driven methods. this is based on th concept that industries should use best technology polutant control measure which they themselves can afford
