Question
Ch 22 HW: Problem 22.4- Generators The 735-turn wire coil below has a radius of 21.5 cm, a resistance of 0.560 and rotates through a uniform 6.50 Tesla magnetic field in such a way that the top half of the coil comes out of the page and the bottom half of the coil goes into the page. a) If the coil completes exactly one quarter turn in 0.140 seconds, what is the magnitude and direction of the average induced current in the coil during that interval? b) Suppose this is a generator. What is its angular frequency, ? c) What is the rms value of the current produced by this generator?Explanation / Answer
a) Induced emf = change in megntiec flux through the loop/time taken
= N*A*B/t
= 735*pi*0.215^2*6.5/0.14
= 4956 V
b) from the given data, T/4 = 0.14 s
T = 0.56 s
we know, w = 2*pi/T
= 2*pi/0.56
= 11.2 rad/s
c) maximum induced emf = N*A*B*w
= 735*pi*0.215^2*6.5*11.2
= 7770 V
Irms = Vrms/R
= (7770/sqrt(2))/0.56
= 9811 A
