Question

Please help with part D

Calculate the magnitude of the normal force on a 12.7 kg block in the following circumstances. (Enter your answers in N.) HINT (a) The block is resting on a level surface. 124.46 The four cases in this problem are the most common situations. In general, solving for the normal force invo (b) The block is resting on a surface tilted up at a 40.8° angle with respect to the horizontal. 94.22 (c) The block is resting on the floor of an elevator that is accelerating downward at 2.28 m/s2. 95.5 (d) The block is on a level surface and a force of 135 N is exerted on it at an angle of 40.8° below the horizontal.

Explanation / Answer

d) weight of block = 12.7*9.8=124.46 N (downwards)

vertical force on block due to external force=135*sin40.8=88.21 N(upwards)

net vertical force=124.46-88.21=36.25 N

therefore, normal force on block=36.25 N
