Question

Consider the structure of the DNA double helix.

A.              You and a friend want to split a double-stranded DNA molecule so you each have half. Is it better to cut the length of DNA in half so each person has a shorter length, or to separate the strands and each take one strand? Explain.

B.        In the original 1953 publication describing the discovery of the structure of DNA, Watson and Crick wrote, “It has not escaped our notice that the specific pairings we have postulated immediately suggest a possible copying mechanism for the genetic material.” What did they mean?

Explanation / Answer

For A. The DNA double helix can be shorten or divided apart like a Zipper.

For B. Mr. Watson and Mr. Crick, in the above sentence during their discovery of DNA double helix states that they have noticed that the DNA strand can become apart.

This additional information to the scientists has stated that these DNA tick the cells which means make the cells and make the features of the parents have them identical in children and the genetic material in this way can show the same diseases as in parents which can be found children too.
