Explanation / Answer
1. Cell cycle is the series of events that take place in cell leading to its division. It occurs in 3 main phases, interphase, the mitotic M phase and cytokinesis.
Interphase is the resting phase of cell wherein it prepares itself for the cell division. DNA replication occurs in S synthetic phase of interphase.
Mitosis is the phase of cell cycle where the mother cell divides into 2 equal daughter cells. It occurs in 4 phases.
Prophase is the first phase of mitosis, where chromosomes condense and nuclear membrane begins to disintegrate.
Metaphase involves alignment of chromosomes at metaphase plate . Spindle fibres begin to form , and attach to kinetochores of chromosomes.
In anaphase, chromosomes split and daughter chromatids move to opposite poles.
In telophase, 2 daughter nuclei are formed
Cytokinesis is the last phase of cell cycle, where the cytoplasm splits into two and 2 daughter cells are formed.
