Question
The specific heat of copper is 387 J/kgC. How much heat (in joules) is required to raise the temperature of 9 gram of copper from 27 C to 64 C The latent heat of melting of ice is 333 kJ/kg. How much heat is required to melt 94 grams of ice. Give your answer in kilojoules. In an experiment it is found that 434 J of heat raised the temperature of 62 grams of a material by 23 C. What is the specific heat of that material? Give your answer in J/kgC. 3.00 kg of a gas is provided with 263 J heat and 137 J work is done on it at the same time. What is the increase in internal energy of the gas? Avogadro number is A = 6.02 times 10_23. How many molecules are there in 5.3 moles of a gas. (Due to typo, this question will not be graded- 7/10/2017, 7: 08 pm) Avogadro number is A = 6.02 times 10_23. How many Avogadro number of molecules are there in 222 grams of carbon dioxide. How many moles are 688 grams of nitrogen gas.
Explanation / Answer
Question (1):
Amount of heat required, Q = m*s*delta T = 0.009 * 387*(64 - 27) = 128.87 J
Question (3):
94 gm of ice = 94/1000 = 0.094 kg
So, amount of heat required, Q = m*L = 0.094 * 333 = 31.30 kJ.
Question (4):
Suppose 1 kg of that material.
So, we have -
434 = 1*s*(62 - 23)
=> s = 434 / 39 = 11.13 J/kgC
