Question

In Activity 1-1, how will you be able to sketch the electric field lines for simple charge distributions? Please answer 1-5 if you can.

RE-LAB PREPARATION SHEET FOR LAB 2-ELECTRIC FIELDS, FLUx AND GAuss' LAw (Due at the beginning of lab) Directions: Read over Lab 2 and then answer the following questions about the procedures. 1. In Activity 1-1, how will you be able to sketch the electric field lines for simple charge distributions? 2. Describe the model you will use in Activity 1-3 to examine the dependence of flux on angle. 3. How will you analyze the data in Activity 1-3? 1-4, what will you be comparing the net number of electric field lines coming out of a closed surface to? 5. In Activity 2-2, do you predict that the excess charge on the can willi on the inside surface of the can or the outside surface? Briefly describe observations you will make to test your prediction the

Explanation / Answer

1)The basic of drawing electric field lines is that they start from a positive charge chand terminate on a negative charge. So basically in the direction of negative charge.

2)Flux is related to angle as:

flux = phi = EA cos(theta)

3)activity 1-3 is required for this.

4)The more the lines the more will be the strength of the field.

5)The excess of charge always resides on the surface of the conductor at equilibrium. The can being a conductor will have all the access charge on its surface.
