Question
Please help me with the first one first.
/12/2017 Homework 3 A point charge (m 1.4 g) at the end of an insulating string of length 55 cm i horizontal electric field of 9500 N/C, (vertical) position. s observed to be in equilibrium in a uniform when the pendulum's position is as shown in, with the charge 12 cm above the lowest L=55 cm In 12 cm Part A If the field points to the right in the figure, determine the magnitude of the point charge Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. ANSWER: Part B Determine the sign of the point charge. ANSWER positive negative Score Summary: Your score on this assignment is 0.0%. You received 0 out of a possible total of 4 points. https: signmentPrintView?assignmentD-5667407 3/3Explanation / Answer
here,
m = 0.014 kg
length , l = 0.55 m
horizontal electric feild , Ex = 9500 N/C
theta = arccos((55 - 12)/55)
theta = 38.6 degree
let the tension in the cable be T and charge be Q
equating the forces vertically
T * cos(theta) = m * g
T * cos(38.6) = 0.014 * 9.8
T = 0.18 N
equating the forces horizontally
T * sin(theta) = Q * E
0.18 * sin(38.6) = Q * 9500
Q = 1.15 * 10^-5 C
b)
as the force on charge is in the direction of feild
the charge is POSITIVELY CHARGED
